The Grosbois brothers roamed the world, making wine in foreign countries such as New Zealand, Argentina, Australia, and Italy, before placing roots in the land of their ancestors. They returned full of knowledge and ideas, joining a new generation of winemakers in the Loire Valley. Their family domaine is situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Panzoult, AOP Chinon. The domaine sits on the right bank of the Vienne between Tours and Saumur, around the site of the Pressoir (translating to winepress in English), a 15th-century fortified farm. The wines of Chinon are close to Nicolas and Sylvain’s heart. Specializing in Cabernet Franc, the typical variety of Chinon, the brothers craft wines that are bountiful, robust, and structured. A 14 hectare vineyard (34 acres) driven by organic agriculture and structured around three terroirs: 1) Seven hectares (17 acres) and the only parcel from the Pressoir (the domaine), silica-clay soil, under limestone soil, on the gentle hillside which faces the Vienne. Directly south facing. 2) Two hectares (five acres) in the lowlands of Cravant-Les-Côteaux, pebbly and sandy earth, alluvial terraces producing a lighter wine. 3) Five hectares (12 acres) in the municipality of L’île Bouchard, with gravel-limestone soil. Harvest is 100% by hand and the grapes are completely de-stemmed. The wine is vinified using indigenous yeasts and is aged in concrete cuve.
